At the Resource and Recovery Center Newton residents can deposit paper, cardboard, and bottles and cans for recycling, donate books and even get rid of appliances and electronics, including monitors and TVs. A fee applies to electronic items and they are accepted on select Friday and Saturdays only. Appliances and electronic items can also be picked up curbside by calling to schedule an appointment. There is no charge for for washers, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters, A/Cs and dehumidifiers dropped off at the Recycling Depot.

The Depot also accepts mercury-containing items, such as fluorescent bulbs, thermostats, and thermometers, plus rechargeable batteries, scrap metal, motor oil, clean, white styrofoam (must be bagged), and empty propane tanks. Visit the website for more information.
