Residents, elected officials and community members are invited to a roundtable discussion on Community Development Block Grant Funding (CDBG) hosted by Mayor Setti Warren.
The event will take place Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton. The discussion begins at 11:30 a.m.
According to a press release issued by Warren's office, the discussion will focus primarily on preserving the CDBG funding, which has helped out numerous organizations and public facilities in Newton. Some programs that receive CDBG funding include the Newton Senior Center, Newton Cultural Center, Newton Community Service Center, Newton Community Development Foundation, the Newton Wellesley Weston Committee and the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton.
Last year, Warren welcomed Congressman Barney Frank to the Newton Community Service Center for a CDBG rally. This year, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Secretary Mercedes Marquez will join Warren for the discussion.
Warren, who chairs the Committee on Community Development and Housing for the U.S. Conference of Mayors, has met multiple times with HUD officials and other politicians to advocate for the CDBG program.
Newton received more than $4 million in community development funding in September, more than $2 million of which came from CDBG funds.
