Aldermen Debate, Swimming, Solar Workshop

A few things you need to know for Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Newton.

1. Catch the Ward 1 Alderman candidate debate tonight at 7 p.m. on NewTV’s government channel, Comcast 9, RCN 13, Verizon 33) and streamed online via the website (http://www.newtv.org/decision2013-2/)

2. Gath Pool has adult swim time today from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m., so no kids splashing while you do laps. Don’t worry. Kids can get in during general swim, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

3. The City of Newton is sponsoring a home energy workshop today. Residents can learn about getting discounts on solar panels. Find out more here.

4. Take a look around the house and grounds of the historic Durant-Kenrick House from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The house is located at 186 Waverley Avenue.
