Blue Christmas Service, Blood Drive, Senior Center Holiday Concert

A few things you should know for Wednesday, Dec. 18 in Newton.

1. Second Church in Newton invites the public to reflect on the less than joyous parts of the Christmas season tonight at 7 p.m. A special addition to the service will be a performance of Adagios from Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord by J. S. Bach with Katherine Winterstein, violin and Andrus Madsen, harpsichord. Find out more here.

2. Give blood at a drive at the Newton Free Library today from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

3. Today at 7:30 p.m., the Newton Free Library hosts an African Literature Discussion Group. This month the group will discuss The Magic of Saida, a novel by M.G. Vassanji, originally from Kenya. Info contact: Anne Serafin at 617-527-1072.

4. The Newton Senior Center’s Chamber Ensemble will perform a medley of winter and holiday favorites today at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served: scones, muffins and fruit salad generously provided by Waterstone at Wellesley. All are welcome.
