Holiday Lighting, Two Author Discussions, "Live Better with Less Stuff"

A few things you need to know for Thursday, Dec. 5, in Newton.

1. Today is the Newton Holiday Lighting at 4 p.m. at City Hall. Bring your family and join in the free community sing-along for kids and families led by the award-winning Stacey Peasley Band. You can follow along in the song book, and sing holiday favorites. See more here

2. Author Mark Cohen will discuss his book, Overweight Sensation: The Life and Comedy of Allan Sherman at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center, 333 Nahanton St. in Newton, today at 7:30pm. See more info here.

3. Rabbi Shai Held, co-founder of Mechon Hadar, discusses his new book on Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-1972) the prolific scholar, impassioned theologian and prominent activist who participated in the civil rights movement and the campaign against the Vietnam War. The event is hosted by Hebrew College, 160 Herrick Road, Newton tonight at 7:30 p.m. It's free but you must register. See how here.

4. Evans Park at Newton Corner will offer a special networking event for professionals who serve senior and baby boomers today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Live Better with Less Stuff!  The event will take place at Evans Park, 430 Centre Street, in Newton.
