Rosie’s Place, the nation’s first sanctuary for poor and homeless women, raised more than $475,000 at its annual Funny Women…Serious Business luncheon at the Hynes Convention Center, exceeding the previous year’s efforts and the event’s fundraising goal.
The sold-out October 15th event brought together 1,500 corporate sponsors and individual supporters to celebrate the Boston-based nonprofit’s vital work and the women they serve. Funds were raised through ticket sales, sponsorships, and a centerpiece raffle that contributed more than $143,000.
“The spirit of Rosie’s Place is matched only by the courage of our guests and the generosity of our supporters,” said Rosie’s Place Executive Director Sue Marsh. “Thank you for reaching out and creating justice.”

The event was headlined by comedian Joy Behar, formerly of The View. WCVB-TV’s Susan Wornick served as event emcee and was joined by anchorwomen from Boston television outlets: Latoyia Edwards, NECN; Lisa Hughes, WBZ-TV; Kim Khazei,WHDH 7; Kate Merrill, myTV38; and Sorbani Banjeree, Fox25.
Headlining sponsor for Funny Women… Serious Business was Liberty Mutual; presenting centerpiece sponsor was Neiman Marcus Natick; and leading sponsors were Boston Interiors, Christina and Michael Gordon, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Pioneer Investments.
