US Olympic Hockey Legend Mike Eruzione Speaks at Lasell

Mike Eruzione, one of the heroes of the 1980 United States Olympic Gold Medal Hockey Team, spoke to students at Lasell College recently about the importance of teamwork and seizing opportunities when they present themselves.

Eruzione, who scored the goal to win the gold medal against a heavily favored Russian team, spoke about the importance of work ethic and teamwork to achieve a goal. The talk took place in Lasell's Stoller Room on December 11.

"Nobody thought our team was going to win; they called our win a miracle. They said we had no talent, ability or experience to beat Russia," said Eruzione.

Eruzione recounted his path to the Olympics and how a decision to play in a summer hockey league game led to the opportunity to play on the Olympic team. That summer hockey game led to his recruitment to play hockey for Boston University and to his selection as a member of the U.S. Hockey Team.

"If I never took that opportunity to play that one summer league game I would never had played in the Olympics," he said.
