5 Things You Need to Know: July 7

African music and dance, library hours, free admission and more.

1. The Newton Cultural Center's Heritage Festival season kicks off tonight with Rumbafrica. Tonight's performance will include African music and dances showcasing African culture. The festivals are free and take place from 6:15 p.m.-8 p.m. on the Newton Centre Green.

2. Newton's American Legion Post 440 team plays Hudson in an away game at Riverside Park today. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

3. Free admission weekend continues at the Jackson Homestead and Museum for Newton residents and for Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders at a host of area museums.

4. Reminder: The Newton Free Library is CLOSED on Sundays throughout July and August.
