A Genius Works in Newton, See if You Know Her

A woman who works in Chestnut Hill became one of the newest MacArthur Foundation "Geniuses" this week.

Robin Fleming, who studies and teaches British history during Roman times and Middle Ages at Boston College, was one of three from Massachusetts who received a MacArthur Fellowship.

Her recent work focuses on the economic collapse following the withdrawal of Roman power from the edges of its empire, according to the MacArthur Foundation website.

Fleming's bio on the MacArthur Foundation website reads:

"With her probing research and her ability to relate her findings with remarkable clarity, Fleming is changing the way historians view early medieval Britain and providing a framework for incorporating material culture into the writing of history."

She has been affiliated with BC since 1989 and now is a professor and chair of the Department of History.
