Chestnut Hill Temple Consecrates Jewish Cemetery in West Roxbury

A traditional Jewish cemetery opened in West Roxbury Sunday.

Chestnut Hill's has opened a new Jewish cemetery that will be ready for burials in the coming weeks.

According to YourTown West Roxbury, the cemetery was consecrated at a ceremony at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, June 10, and is a project two years in the making. The new space will be on Baker Street, near some existing Jewish burial sites. 

“This happened with the support of the temple and tremendous support of the Jewish community,” Temple Emeth Treasurer Harvey Albert told Boston.com.

The Temple Emeth Memorial Park is located within West Roxbury's. YourTown reports that the space is beginning to fill up, which is part of the driving need for new burial space. After the ground is consecrated in today's ceremony, it will be open for funerals.
