The Newton and Waltham Rotary Clubs are holding the 13th annual event form 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Post 440 at 295 California Street in Newton to raise money for Newton and and Waltham-based charities.

The event is a competition in which local bakeries compete in five categories: best chocolate cake, best cookie, best brownie, best candy and best unique dessert.

The clubs are hoping to raise at least $20,000, the amount they raised last year, according organizer Connie Braceland.

"The more money was make the more goes out to the community," said organizer Kenneth Brown.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for kids under 12. Tickets are available at the event Web site. Tickets include unlimited wine and food sampling.

A couple of changes are coming to this year's event. Organizers moved the event to the Post 440 because their prior venue was undergoing renovations, according to Brown. Also, organizers have added wine tasting this year. Waltham-based Gordon's Fine Wine & Liquors will provide the wine, Brown said.

Also, a silent auction will be held. Among the prizes: A stay at a house on Cape Cod, Boston Bruins tickets and many other items, Brown said.
