Family Fun at Newton "Chanukah Lights" Program this Weekend

There will be menorah-making and music at the Chanukah Lights event at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC.

Get the kids geared up for Hanukkah (also, of course, spelled Chanukah) this weekend at , a fun, family program with crafts and an interactive musical performance.

Taking place on Sunday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the , this family event is open to the entire community, not only members of the JCC, says Family Program Coordinator Suzanne Robbins.

“We want this to be a festive, holiday event for anyone who wants to come,” says Robbins.

Kid-friendly activities will include making dreidels and chanukiah, or menorahs.  While the activities are geared towards children between the ages of two and six, all children who would like to participate are welcome, says Robbins.

There will also be a performance of “lively, energetic, interactive, kid-friendly Hanukkah music” by Josh Shrider.

“He’s a great musician, but he makes things so much fun for kids,” she says, adding that at a previous performance, Shrider had the entire audience dancing and moving around.

There will also be snacks including a Hanukkah treat, and the kids will be given gelt, traditional chocolate coins, to take home.

The cost of this event is $15 per family and attendees are asked to pre-register online at jccgb.org/miracle. Walk-ins are also welcome.
