Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 16
A family concert with the New Phil, free music at the library and the last day to enter our "Deck the House" contest.
1. Family Discovery Series concert. The New Philharmonia Orchestra will present its Family Discovery Series concert this afternoon at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Newton. Join the New Phil, Newton’s All City Chorus and dancers from the Boston Ballet School in a collaborative celebration. Plus, an instrument petting zoo will be available after the concert. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for students (student tickets cover children 18 months or more).
2. Today is the LAST DAY...To enter our Patch "Deck the House" contest. ! Plus, if you're a finalist, Patch will pay for your December electric bill (up to $500).
3. Free concert at the library. Pianist Gila Goldstein will give a free concert today at the Newton Free Library. Goldstein's performance will include works by Bach, Chopin, Liszt and Ginastera.

5. A "Taste" of Parenting Through a Jewish Lens. Parenting through a Jewish Lens, a 10-week Jewish parenting program offered by Hebrew College and the CJP, will hold a free informational session today at Temple Emanuel. The session will run from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
