Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 9

1. Newton Centre Menorah lighting. Chabad of Newton Centre will host the annual Menorah lighting on the Newton Centre Green (corner of Langley Road and Centre Street) this afternoon at 4 p.m. 

2. Free concert. Violinist Akiko Kobayashi and pianist Claudia Kobayashi will perform a free concert this afternoon at the Newton Free Library. The two will perform Bach's sixth violin and keyboard sonata. Beethoven's Violin Sonata No.7 in C minor and Franck's Violin Sonata. The concert starts at 2 p.m.

3. Recycle your electronics. Do you have old electronics hanging around that you've been meaning to recycle? Bring them to the Waban Library Center today between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to drop off with Ethical Electronics Recycling. The electronics will be weighed and attendees will be charged a fee of $1.00 per pound, payable by cash or check. (Special discounts for seniors, canned food donors, Waban Improvement Society members, and Newton Food Pantry volunteers.)

4. Classical guitar. Newton resident George Attisano will be performing a program of classical guitar and holiday music today at L'Aroma Cafe & Bakery in West Newton from 2 p.m. 4 p.m.

5. Chanukah Family Festival. The Chabad at Chestnut Hill will host a Chanukah Family Festival this afternoon at the Mall at Chestnut Hill. The event starts at 4 p.m. and will include a balloon Menorah, a balloon show, live music, special Chanukah treats, Chanukah-themed crafts and a photo booth where you can dress up as a Dreidel or Judah The Macabee.
