Five Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 4

A visit from local aldermen, basketball and warmer temperatures.

1. Go Tigers! The Newton North High School girls' varsity basketball team will face Weymouth in a home match tonight at 6:30 p.m.

2. Aldermen visits at the Senior Center. Ward 2 Alderman Stephen Linsky will hold his monthly constituent meeting this morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Newton Senior Center. 

3. Single digits no more. Well, at least for now. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will warm up a bit today for a forecasted high of 37 degrees. It will be breezy, though, so you will still want to bundle up.

4. Flu vaccines available by appointment. The Newton Dept. of Health & Human Services is offering flu vaccines by appointment. Call 617-796-1420 for more information and to make an appointment.

5. Take online classes through the Newton Free Library. Did you know the Newton Free Library library offers more than 500 free online classes? Try new hobbies and learn new skills like cooking, photography, homeschooling, computer training and more. All you need is your library card number to get started.
