Local Man with Newton Ties Presumed Dead on Mount Rainier

A Needham native is one of six climbers presumed dead after a likely fall Wednesday on Mount Rainier in Washington, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Eitan Green, a 2009 Colby College graduate, was one of two guides from Seattle-based Alpine Ascents International on the hike, according to the report. The climbers were last heard from on Wed., May 28 at 6 p.m. and are believed to have fallen thousands of feet.

It may be weeks or months before the climbers’ bodies are recovered, if they ever are, according to the report.

Green reportedly attended the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston in Newton until eighth grade.
