Newton Family Won't Let Letter from 'Scrooge' Dampen Their Christmas Spirit

An anonymous letter criticizes the Newton Corner home's Christmas display.

The Hunters have had a Christmas display outside their home on Emerson Street for 37 years, but the display has at least one critic.

The display was started by William Hunter, a former Cambridge firefighter, and it went up every year except the year he passed away, according to a report by WCBV Channel 5.

The Hunters received an anonymous letter saying that they should take down their display, which includes lights and statues that glow. The letter had a Boston postmark, according to the report.

The letter says that "Not everyone in the neighborhood is Christian and many people do not wish to see such a flagrant display." It also criticizes the display itself, saying "All religious matters aside, your decorations themselves are beyond tasteless."

No one has taken credit for the letter, and it has not been authenticated, WCVB reported.

While the critic does not like the display, many neighbors have rallied behind Hunter, and on Saturday people will gather at 7 p.m to sing Christmas carols.
