Newton Veterans to Take on Waltham in Softball Game

Special guests will be at the game as part of the fun. Food and family activities will also be available.

Veterans from Newton and Waltham will play a friendly game of softball, and will welcome some special guests.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren and Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy announced the game, which will take place on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. at Forte Park, 235 California St. in Newton.

The first pitch will be thrown out by former Boston Red Sox pitcher Jim Corsi and the National Anthem will be performed by Rene Rancourt, the legendary signer of the anthem for the Boston Bruins.

Along with the softball, there will be family activities such as face painting, music and popcorn.

A Veterans Service Center will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m, where services providers and Regional Veterans Services Officers can talk about available benefits and services. Veterans and their families can socialize and enjoy food from Blue Ribbon BBQ and The Chateau.
