Photos: Mayor Warren, Barney Frank Celebrate Community Development at Pellegrini Park

Mayor Setti Warren joined Congressman Barney Frank and members of the community in a ribbon cutting ceremony at Pellegrini Park

Newton  and joined community members  yesterday to celebrate Community Development week, and specifically, improvements made to Pellegrini Park through the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG).

"This is a program where you take limited amounts of money and you're able to leverage it to improve the quality of life in a community," said Warren "It's happening here. It's happening all over."

Warren went on to stress the importance of continuing to protect these types of funds from future spending cuts.

Frank also discussed the issue of spending cuts. "I'm not against cutting funding," said Frank. "I'm willing to cut funding in a few cities... Baghdad, Kandahar and a few others..."

Frank continued by saying that he believes the country has needs which need to be met and which shouldn't be overlooked in favor of our interests abroad.
