Supporters of Engine 6 Project Hosting Event in Newton

Find out more about the project that would preserve the Waban Firehouse and provide housing for formerly homeless residents.

The supporters of the Engine 6 project will host an event on Monday, Sept. 23 where residents can learn more about the project that will provide housing for the recently homeless.

The proposal by the Metro West Collaborative Development and Pine Street Inn will preserve the historic Waban firehouse and create low-income studio apartments for nine formerly homeless residents.

Lyndia Downie, president and executive director of Pine Street Inn, will be the guest speaker at the event at the Eliot Church, 474 Centre St. in Newton.

The proposal has stalled after Mayor Setti Warren blocked federal funding for the project.
