Volunteers Needed to Serve on Newton Historical Commission

Newton residents interested in Newton history, historic preservation or archeology are encouraged to apply.

The city is currently looking for volunteers to serve on the Newton Historical Commission.

According to a memo posted in the city's weekly Planning Department Update, the commission serves as the city's preservation planning body and has the responsibility of:

  • Surveying and documenting historic properties
  • Advising the mayor and Board of Aldermen on matters pertaining to historic preservation
  • Enforcing the demolition delay and city landmark ordinances
  • Working with the public to encourage the preservation of historic properties as well as protecting the City’s heritage

Residents who are interested in Newton history, historic preservation, archeology and architectural history are encouraged to apply.
