Which Massachusetts Community Got the Most Rain?

The skies are brightening after three days of downpours and unsettled weather. 

The past three days have seen numerous weather alerts, including tornado watches and flood warnings. 

Some parts of Massachusetts saw the worst of it on Monday and Tuesday, while areas closer to Boston got hit hard on Wednesday afternoon. Roadways flooded throughout Greater Boston as a line of severe storms moved through the area. 

Which community got hit hardest on Wednesday? According to the National Weather Service, which compiled a list of unofficial totals from spotters, observers, media and highways departments, Central Massachusetts got it worst. 

Here is a sampling of rainfall totals on Wednesday from the National Weather Service:

  • Royalston -- 4
  • Holden -- 3.85
  • Athol -- 3.02
  • Belmont -- 2.78
  • Lowell -- 2.75
  • Medford -- 2.36
  • Woburn -- 2.34
  • Arlington -- 2.26
  • Peabody -- 2.22
  • Plymouth -- 2.11
  • Wakefield -- 2.03
  • Topsfield -- 1.85
  • Chelmsford -- 1.66
  • Tewksbury -- 1.65
  • Falmouth -- 1.6
  • Andover -- 1.51
  • Vineyard Haven -- 1.44

Note: The National Weather Service did not include the information for every community, but provided the totals for some of the hardest hit areas.
