Call for Entries: Newton Memorial Day Student Art Contest

Submissions are due this Friday, March 29.

The Newton Sons of the American Legion Post 440 is seeking student entries for its annual Newton Memorial Day Art Contest.

The theme for this year's art contest is titled "Honoring America's Fallen Heroes" and submissions are due to the American Legion Post 440 by Friday, March 29, 2013, according to a press release issued by the Legion.

The Memorial Day Art Contest is open to all Newton Public School students and the top three entries will be asked to duplicate their work on the walls of the game room at Newton Post 440, where the artwork will be on display for six months.

Contest winners will also be asked to march in this year's Memorial Day Parade.

“As a Veteran of the Iraq War, and proud member of the Post 440, I am proud to support this initiative,” Mayor Setti Warren said in a press release. “Newton is a community that takes great pride in honoring our veterans, and this is a terrific way for our veterans community to partner with the Newton Public Schools.”

Guidelines for the art contest include:

  • Work can be color or black and white
  • Must be done on an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper
  • Child's name, age, phone number, school and email address included on back of the entry
  • One entry per student
  • Submissions (due March 29) sent to: Sons of the American Legion, Post 440, 295 California St., Newton, MA 02458.
