Curtain Closing on Newton Country Players

The Newton Country Players will be closing the curtain for good, the group announced on its Facebook Page on Saturday.

Looking for a place to perform and rehearse became a burden for the theater group that has been around for nearly six decades.

“As you may know, the group has faced many challenges after having left our ‘home’ at the Windsor Club in Waban several years ago. The hunt for a new space for performing, rehearsing, and storage takes up a lot of time and money,” the Newton Country Players board of directors wrote.

The decision to end the group was also based on shrinking audiences, according to the letter.

“It was an enormously difficult decision after weighing various alternatives and different ways to keep forging ahead without sacrificing the quality of our productions,” the board wrote.

The board thanked its supporters and those associated with the group over the 57 years of existence.
