Day Middle Receives MET Musical Award

The Newton middle school's production of "Music Man" was up against schools and productions from across the state.

The F.A. Day Middle School in Newton brought home the 2013 MET (Massachusetts Educational Theater) Musical Award for Best Musical Direction during a ceremony on June 11 in Boston.

The school's production of "Music Man" received 11 nominations across 10 categories, including two nominations in the Best Featured Actress category.

  • Best Technical Design (winner: Blanchard Middle for "All Shook Up")
  • Best Music Direction (winner: Day School for "Music Man")
  • Best Stage Direction (winner: Weston Middle for "Disney’s Aladdin")
  • Best Choreography - Day nominees: Julia Lailler and Yael Soran (winner: Lynnfield Middle for "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat")
  • Best Stage Management - Day nominees Kathryn Copley and Devin Perlo (winner: Qualters Middle for "Bye, Bye Birdie")
  • Best Choral Ensemble - Day nominees: the company (winner: Weston Middle for "Disney’s Aladdin")
  • Best Featured Actor - Day nominee: Nicholas Zhang (winner: Will Ferrari as "Charles F. Maude" in Qualters Middle's "Bye, Bye Birdie")
  • Best Featured Actress - Day nominees: Sydney Reynders and Zoe Jauniskis (winner:Jordana Kagan as "Princess Winnifred" in Walsh Middle's "Once Upon a Mattress")
  • Best Leading Actor - Day nominee: David Mapes-Frances (winner: Beckett Azevedo as "Chad" in Blanchard Middle's "All Shook Up")
  • Best Production (winner: "Disney’s Aladdin" by Weston Middle)
