Newton Author's Novel to Become TV Miniseries

Anita Diamant's "The Red Tent" will become a Lifetime miniseries.

The novel is about Dinah, a biblical character.

"In the Bible, her life is only hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the more familiar chapters of the Book of Genesis that tell of her father, Jacob, and his twelve sons," the book synopsis reads. "Told in Dinah's voice, (the book) imagines the traditions and turmoils of ancient womanhood—the world of the red tent."

The book was published in 1997 and has sold millions of copies, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. It gained popularity for telling a sweeping Bible story through the eyes of a female protagonist.

Diamant lives in Newton with her husband and daughter.
