Newtonites in Hollywood Getting Ready to Hit the Big Screen

B.J. Novak and Eli Roth both have movies - one out now and one next year.

Two Newton natives have big screen projects, one you can see now and another that you'll have to wait a while to see.

B.J. Novak (famous for his work on "The Office" and in the move "Inglourious Basterds") will join Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in "Saving Mr. Banks."

The movie chronicles the making of Disney's "Mary Popplins." Hanks plays Walt Disney, Thompson is the author of the book version of Mary Poppins and Novak is Disney music writer Robert Sherman, according to a piece in the Boston Globe.

"Saving Mr. Banks" is in theaters now, including West Newton Cinema and Showcase SuperLux in Chestnut Hill.

Director Eli Roth recently got a distributor for his latest move, "The Green Inferno." The film is about a group of student activists who travel to the Amazon and get taken hostage by cannibals.

Open Road Films will release the film on Sept. 5, 2014, according to a story on TheWrap.com.

Both Novak and Roth are Newton South alums, the Globe noted.
