The Central Giants Bring it Home Against the Central A's

During the spring little league season we are posting articles written by young Newton sports writers. This story was written by Abbie Hodgson grade 4 at Cabot school.

It was a cold gray day, the visiting Giants led of the top off the first with a promising start with 2 base runs on base.  The A’s starting pitcher Theo Sox struck out 2 players and caught a pop fly to him.  Pitcher Kenny Schecter struck out 3 batters in a row to end the inning.

In the top of the second there was a hit to left field.  Next thing you now bases are loaded.  Jason Temel, big hitter, stepped up to the plate.  He hit a shot to center field scoring two runs. The A’s buckled down ending the inning, holding the score to 3-0. In the bottom of the second Henry Harkins, hit a bomb to left field making it a double. He then stole third, and home to score the A’s first run. The A’s could not keep up the rally, the next three batters struck out. Making the score 3-1, at the end of two.

The first two Giants got on  to lead off the top of the third inning. It was runners at first and second and Josh Schoenberg
stepped up to the plate, and slammed the ball into the outfield getting a double, scoring one, but then from left field Timmy Hodgson threw the runner out at third base. Bret Miller hit to second, a slight bobble and an infield hit, First and third for the runners. The Giants tried a double steal, but the A’s did not fall for it. Man on second and third. Harry Samuels hit a pop-out to Henry Harkins at short-stop, the runner at third tagged up and scored, and Bret moved to third. Bret scored on a passed ball. Giants up 6-1. Bottom of the third Zander Gilmartin beat out an infield hit.  He then stole second and third, then scored on a passed ball, making it 6-2 and the end of 3.

To change the pace, the A’s brought in Henry Harkins to pitch, and he started strong striking out the first batter. However, the Giants bats were too good and they added to their lead. Through the 4th inning and 5th the momentum stayed with the Giants. In the 5th inning, Nate Bourgoin hammered a shot, trying to start a rally, however Ethan Donnelly made a great catch at third base. The A’s could not fight back, against Kenny Schecter. Jason Temel closed out the game, with Giants winning 10-2.
