Updated 1:15 p.m. with a statement from New England Development.
Officials from New England Development announced this week that an upscale clothing and home decor store will be opening a location at the new Chestnut Hill Square in Newton.
According to a report in the Boston Globe, Anthropologie will join the lineup at the Chestnut Hill Square site, which is located off Route 9.
“Anthropologie will be a terrific addition to the other stores and restaurants at Chestnut Hill Square and we’re delighted that they chose our project as the best location in Chestnut Hill," Executive Vice President at New England Development Douglass Karp said in a statement issued to Newton Patch.
Anthropologie currently has five shops in Massachusetts and previously had a location in the Atrium Mall in Chestnut Hill. However, the Anthropologie website indicates the Atrium store closed on July 31 after Bulfinch purchased the mall to convert the space into medical offices.
The new Anthropologie store will be 10,000 square feet, the Globe reported.
In addition to Anthropologie, Chestnut Hill Square is also slated to include a Wegmans supermarket, Equinox fitness club, , Francesca's Collections, Red Mango (frozen yogurt) and Century Bank, according to the New England Development website.
When it is completed, the entire retail, office and residential development at 200-230 Boylston St. (the former Omni Foods site) will total 340,000 square feet. The development is set to open in fall 2013.
Meanwhile, across the street at the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center, WS Development continues to expand and renovate that retail center. The first piece of the new addition, a Sports Club/LA, is set to open January 2013.
