Charley's was run by San Francisco-based Tavistock Restaurants, which runs 16 upscale and "fast casual" restaurants with more than 100 locations across the country, according to its website. It acquired Charley's in 2011.

But Charley's is not the only restaurant making its exit from the Mall at Chestnut Hill. The Asian eatery Bernard's is also planning a move to a new space at The Street once construction is completed at the shopping center's new 115,000-square-foot building.

Earlier this year, the Mall at Chestnut Hill applied for permits to add new restaurant space to the mall over the next in the next three years.
