Wegmans in Chestnut Hill is set to open its doors to the public at 7 a.m. this Sunday, April 27, and promises an experience like no other – one that’ll have Boston loving to grocery shop again.

Still wondering, “What’s a Wegmans?” You might not be alone, as this is only the second store to open in all of New England.

First, imagine a grocery store that people enjoy going to. Imagine a place where the employees smile and are knowledgeable…a grocery store that gives you the option to shop for all your weekly needs and enjoy a meal in its café. A place where you can find everything you came for – even stuff most other grocery stores don’t have – all under one roof. Where the prices for products families buy every week are lower than other supermarkets, and where you can find many of these products in regular sizes or Family Pack.

A grocery shopper’s “dream” will soon become a reality right here in Chestnut Hill.

Wegmans Store Manager Rich Boscia and his team of 550 employees have been working for months toward one goal: to dazzle customers with incredible service, the right selection, and low prices, from day one and every day thereafter.

“We’re beyond excited to introduce Wegmans to the Chestnut Hill community,” says Boscia. “We have so much to show them, and can’t wait to meet our new customers.”

At 80,000 square feet, compared to Wegmans in Northborough sized at 138,000 square feet, the Chestnut Hill store gives customers the same grand Wegmans experience on a smaller scale. “Virtually every department and category of product sold in our largest stores will be available in Chestnut Hill,” says Boscia. “It’s a more efficient use of space, for sure, but we also were meticulous in selecting the must-haves that shoppers buy every week, along with the very best of what we have to offer, including prepared foods.”

Entering the store, shoppers will be greeted with the aroma of freshly baked breads and mouth-watering prepared foods. They’ll have a sense of visiting different shops in a global village market.

In the Produce Department, there are hundreds of varieties of fresh produce, both conventional and organic, as well as Fruit and Veggie Stations, where produce is cleaned, cut, and sold ready to prepare or serve. In season, local growers will deliver produce picked that day directly to the store.

Seafood offers fully traceable and sustainable fish sourced close to home or around the world, and employees will steam fresh shellfish to go at no additional charge.

Excited yet? Well it doesn’t stop there! What really sets Wegmans apart, according to Boscia, is its people. “We hire the best and then we invest in training, so that employees have deep product knowledge and are excited to share what they know with our customers.”

“Don’t think of it as just a grocery store, but rather a destination,” Boscia added. “It’s a lot to take in all at once, but our people are trained to help customers each step of the way and are proud to welcome Chestnut Hill to the Wegmans tradition.”

Wegmans Wine, Liquor & Beer, which opened its doors on March 29, offers more than 500 varieties of domestic and imported beer, wines starting at $6, and a wide array of spirits. The 10,500-square-foot liquor store is located on the second floor.

On opening day, just before customers are welcomed in, employees will gather near the front of the store to do the Wegmans cheer at 6:55 a.m., a long-standing tradition for the family-owned company.

Customers can visit www.wegmans.com/chestnuthill to get a Wegmans sneak peek and to download the Wegmans App, which allows customers to search recipes, look up products, and create a shopping list that can be sorted by aisle locations.

The new store, located in Chestnut Hill Square at 200 Boylston Street, will be open Sunday through Saturday, 6 a.m to midnight, and the Liquor Store is open Sunday, noon to 9 p.m. and Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
