Looking Back on 2011: Top 5 Business Stories in Newton

During the next week, we'll be looking back at some of the most read stories from the year gone-by. We're kicking it off with top business stories today and will continue with another list each day this week.

If you're new to Newton Patch, these recaps will be a great way to familiarize yourself with what Patch has been up to during 2011. If you're a longtime reader, this is your chance to reminisce a bit. The stories below are presented in no particular order. 

1. (Sept. 29)
Citing high rent, staggering utility bills and a unsuccessful Groupon deal, the owners of the Newtonville restaurant closed the doors of C. Tsar's after just a year in business. 

2. (Dec. 5)
The popular New York-based grocery store announced it plans to open an "urban concept" store in the Chestnut Hill Square development on Route 9, on the site of the former Omni Foods.  

3. (June 10)
After success on the West Coast and in nearby Wellesley, The Cottage opened up at new location at the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center.   

4. (Aug. 3)
Citing a business dispute between owners, the Newton Centre cupcake bakery closed this summer after just a couple months in business.
