As the retail life of the Atrium Mall comes to an end, another former Atrium store has decided to move across Route 9 and set up shop in the Mall at Chestnut Hill.
Children's store Janie and Jack will be joining the second level of the Mall at Chestnut Hill and is slated to open at the end of January, according to a press release issued this morning.
The children's store offers "distinctive, finely crafted clothing and accessories" for kids in sizes preemie to 6 (preemie to 12 online), the press release said.
“The addition of another popular children’s clothing and accessory option continues our reputation as the premier, high-end shopping destination in the area," Simon Property Group Senior Vice President of Leasing Cindy Kernan said in the press release. “The opening of Janie and Jack comes at the perfect time with the start of the New Year."
Janie and Jack was scheduled to close its Atrium Mall location on January 4 as the mall is slowly converted into a medical and office campus known as the Atrium Center at Chestnut Hill.
Like Janie and Jack, several stores have shifted from the Atrium to the Mall at Chestnut Hill over the last couple years, including Ross-Simons, J. Crew and LOFT.
The Atrium was formerly owned by Simon Properties, which also owns the Mall at Chestnut Hill.
Needham-based Bulfinch Cos. purchased the 300,000-square-foot Atrium Mall from Simon in July 2012 and announced its plans to convert it into the office and medical campus.
All stores were slated to leave the Atrium by the end of January, a Bulfinch Cos. spokesperson told Newton Patch last month. However, some uncertainty remains around whether The Cheesecake Factory will stay open through Bulfinch's renovation of the property.
The Atrium will undergo a facelift and some interior renovations before it reopens as the Atrium Center.
The Atrium Mall first opened in 1989 with four floors of retail and a number of anchor restaurants. Over the last year, the mall has emptied out, with its retail shops closing up for good or relocating to other Newton shopping centers such as The Street, the Mall at Chestnut Hill and Chestnut Hill Square.
