New Sycamore Restaurant on its Way to Newton Centre

Things appear to be moving along at 755 Beacon St.

As we reported last month, the former John Dewar & Co. specialty food shop will soon be transformed into Sycamore, a new restaurant venture from Ten Tables owner David Punch.

Over the last couple of weeks, it seems things at 755 Beacon St. have picked up the pace. A new website says Sycamore will be opening this fall and plans to feature "rustic, seasonal and local" food.

According to a post on the Boston Restaurant Talk blog, the new restaurant is likely on its final push before opening, as Punch has officially left Ten Tables in Jamaica Plain.

The owners have also set up a Twitter feed for the restaurant. Late last week, they started teasing at the new space with sneak peek photos from inside the new restaurant.

The Sycamore website lists the restaurant's hours as Sunday - Thursday, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.; Friday & Saturday, 5 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.; cocktails and small bites served until midnight.

John Dewar & Co. -- well known for its meats, cheeses and specialty products -- announced in January of this year that it was consolidating its Newton operations to its Wellesley store. Six months later, Punch announced that he and business partner Shane Smyth planned to open a new restaurant in the space.
