New Walnut Grille Restaurant Opening Tonight in Newton Highlands
Starting next week, the new "vegetarian and vegan experience" will be offering lunch as well as dinner.
Newton's newest "vegetarian and vegan experience" is ready to open its doors in Newton Highlands.
Walnut Grille, located at 1203 Walnut St., will open for dinner tonight, Feb. 28, co-owner Kaarthy Madhan told Newton Patch in an email this week.
The Walnut Grille dinner menu boasts four pages of vegetarian-friendly soups, salads, entrees, side dishes, pizzas, smoothies, kids' meals and fresh-squeezed juices. Many of the dishes offer vegan options as well as gluten- and soy-free ingredients.

According to Madhan, the restaurant will start its dinner service tonight and begin lunch service next week. Brunch will soon be available on the weekends as well.
A take-out menu will also be available for locals who want a quick salad or a smoothie to-go, Madhan said.

Lunch, dinner, brunch and take-out menus for Walnut Grille are included in the .pdf section to the right.
Madhan told Newton Patch that wine, beer and spirits will become a "mainstream" part of the restaurant starting next week.
The Walnut Grille owners applied for their all alcohol beverage and common victualler license at a Nov. 20, 2012 Newton Board of License Commissioners hearing, according to an agenda from the meeting.

The new restaurant is situated in the space formerly occupied by Christina's European Cafe Bistro, which opened in July 2011. However, Christina's quietly closed for the summer in July 2012 and never reopened.
According to the Walnut Grille menu and Facebook page, the new restaurant will be open:
- Monday - Friday: Lunch, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; dinner, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.
- Saturday: Brunch, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; dinner, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.
- Sunday: Brunch, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; dinner, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.
