New Newton Restaurant Brings New Twist to Burritos

Los Amigos in Newtonville has fillings such as coconut shrimp and plantain.

Burrito lovers have a new option in Newton, where they can try some new flavor combinations, along with traditional fillings.

Los Amigos opened at 324 Walnut Street in Newtonville in early December. The Newton restaurant is the second for Los Amigos, with the first location in West Roxbury, said owner Danny Ustayev.

"I graduated from Babson and opened in West Roxbury. My dad has a pizza place nearby so he could lend a hand," said Ustayev, who hails from Newton Upper Falls. "Then I was looking for a spot closer to home. So far it has been good."

Located just down the street from Newton North High School, Los Amigos attracts hungry students during the lunch hour, said Ustayev, who is a Newton South grad.

Along with the typical chicken, beef and pork fillings, you can also have some more exotic fillings.

"We added a more contemporary flavor to burritos," Ustayev said. "We have seafood - coconut shrimp - and plantain burritos. A lot of other places don't have that."

Other items on the menu include tacos - both regular and fish - salads and quesadillas.

Hours are Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays noon to 9 a.m. For more information or to order online, go to the Los Amigos website, http://www.amigosburritos.com/, and check out the Facebook page and Twitter feed.
