Newton Chamber President Excited for "Challenge" of Framingham Job

After almost a year at the helm of the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce, Bob Halpin says he's ready for the "tremendous challenge" ahead of him as Framingham Town Manager. 

The Framingham Board of Selectmen , who was one of three candidates up for the position. 

"I think I bring a unique set of skills [to the job]," Halpin told Newton Patch Friday. "I'm looking forward to engaging with the community."

Halpin, a Concord resident, has more than 25 years of experience in local government and served as town manager in Westford and North Andover. He also was in charge of the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council.

Halpin , a position he said will be "bittersweet" to leave. 

The Chamber position was a difficult job, Halpin explained, as it has been tough to maintain membership in the organization during an economic downturn.

Nevertheless, Halpin acknowledged that the Chamber position was a great opportunity to work with a business community that is "diverse and dynamic."

Halpin said he and Framingham officials are still working out contract details, but that he hopes to start the new position sometime in June. 

"I couldn't be happier," he added. "It's a huge opportunity for my career."
