Newton Men's Clothier Wins Prestigious Award

A Newton mens clothing store walked away with a prestigious award Monday.

You can bet that brothers Stuart and Barry Segel were well-dressed Monday when they accepted the 2013 Uptown Downtown Award for Retail Innovation during a ceremony at the Four Season Hotel in New York City.

The Segals are co-owners of Mr. Sid, the luxury men's clothing store celebrating its 45th year in Newton Centre.

According to a press release, the brothers received the award for "their innovative approach to client services including events... that tie into their menswear lines."

Some of those events include "Memphis in May," a barbecue, bourbon and trunk show event, and "The British are Coming," a Scotch tasting, British sports cars and English cuisine event.

According to Marketplace.com, the brothers took over the business from their father, Ira, who founded Mr. Sid in 1967.

“While every store has its challenges,” co-owner Stuart Segel told Marketplace, “we’ve been able to showcase menswear in a unique manner. We’ve created a certain ambiance. There’s a lot of heart and soul that goes into this.”
