Newton Named a Top 5 Metro Region for Tech Startups

Newton was grouped with a couple of Boston-area cities to make the top 5 metro areas for tech startups.

Newton has been named among the top metro regions in the country for tech startups, according to a list published by Entrepreneur.com.

The Cambridge-Newton-Framingham metro region claimed the No. 4 spot on the list, beat out only by San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif. at No. 3, Fort Collins-Loveland, Colo. at No. 2 and Boulder, Colo. at No. 1.

The next East Coast area on the list was Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, D.C.-Va.-Md. at No. 8.

According to the article the research for the list looked at "high-tech startups specifically, defining them as new businesses with a concentration of employees in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math."

The rankings were based on the number of tech startups compared to the national average. Check out Entrepreneur.com for the Top 25.
