Newton Trust Spends $1.1 Billion for Two Seaport District Towers

The purchase is Senior Housing Properties Trust's biggest investment.

Senior Housing Properties Trust of Newton will pay $1.1 billion for two Seaport District towers, which will house Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. headquarters.

The two 15-story Boston buildings will cost the Newton company $682 per square foot, which is more than other real estate deals in the Seaport District, reported The Boston Globe.

The purchase is the Newton trust’s biggest investment and includes “1.65 million square feet of space with biomedical research facilities, offices, underground parking, and street-level retail space. The trust invests primarily in senior housing and health care facilities,” reported The Globe.
