See Which Major Retailer is Closing in Newton

A major store on Rte. 9 will be closing its doors by the end of the year.

The Barnes & Noble Store in Chestnut Hill will close by the end of the year, the bookstore chain confirmed Tuesday.

The Village14.com blog had a short item saying that a local author call the store to tell them about his book and employees said the store was closing soon.

Patch contacted Barnes & Noble's media relations to find out about the future of the store at 170 Boylston St. and David Deason, Vice President of Development at Barnes & Noble released this statement:

“The lease is expiring at end of January 2014 and the store will be closing at the end of December, 2013. We worked to have the lease extended but were unable to come to an acceptable agreement with the landlord. We will continue to serve our customers at the nearby Prudential Center store.”

The store is located in the same complex as Miltons, which is currently undergoing renovation. That spot sits next to the new Chestnut Hill Square mall, where the first stores will open on Nov. 7 and early next year will be home to Wegmans.
