Visions for Vacancies: Newton Highlands Bank of America

Although it is not vacant yet, the Newton Highlands Bank of America will be closing in August. What would you like to see in its place?

Welcome to Visions for Vacancies, a Patch feature and a place where you can weigh in with your ideas about what kind of businesses you’d like to see occupying empty storefronts around Newton.

Each week, we’ll highlight a vacant building, storefront or structure around the city. Then, we’ll leave it you, the Newton community, to sound off on what you’d like to see there.

This week we’re at 1160 Walnut St., the current branch.

Although this building is not closed yet, a "for sale" sign has popped up in front of the property. According to Bank of America Spokesman T.J. Crawford, the branch is set to close on August 17, 2012.

The Newton Highlands branch customers were notified of the closing earlier this month, Crawford said, and were advised to use other nearby Bank of America locations on Needham Street and in Newton Centre.

Crawford explained that the property is currently up for bid through the website bankingcentersforsale.com. This could mean that the location will be turned back into a bank, but, if you had your way, what would be your vision for this vacancy?
