The Hammond Performing Arts Series Presents the Arabella String Quartet

Chestnut Hill, MA – January 14, 2014 – Saul Cohen, President of Hammond Residential Real Estate in Chestnut Hill, is pleased to announce that the Arabella String Quartet will be performing selected Miniatures for String Quartet as part of the Hammond Performing Arts Series. The concert will take place on Sunday, February 9 at 3 p.m. at the Brimmer & May School in Chestnut Hill. Admission is free.

At their debut concert in Boston two years ago, the then-unnamed Arabella Quartet received a glowing review from The Boston Musical Intelligencer: “The group played like they had been together for years… with freedom, drive, and risk-taking that were quite astonishing in a debut performance… the luftpausen were taken with complete unanimity, the senza vibrato moments showed perfect tuning, and the sections with vibrato were actually synchronized… Though there are already plenty of fine quartets before the public, I nevertheless encourage this quartet sin nomine to get a name and a performing life.” And thus was born the Arabella String Quartet, an ensemble of four friends and like-minded musicians. The quartet performs regularly in the Boston area and at Yale University. This season, they will be embarking on a recording project of “string quartet miniatures” and multiple concerts in the Boston and Washington D.C. area. In addition to performing in the Arabella String Quartet, its members enjoy varied individual careers. Julie Eskar is currently first concertmaster of the Danish National Chamber Orchestra. Sarita Kwok and Ettore Causa serve on the faculty of Yale University. Alexandre Lecarme is a member of the Boston Cello Quarter and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

According to Sarita Kwok, the Quartet decided to perform miniatures as part of this program because, “There is so much amazing literature written for string quartets, but many of these small gems are not programmed as frequently. This will be a superb program both for seasoned concert-goers and those new to classical music. We are certain our audiences will be enchanted by the music and come away with a greater appreciation of the string quartet as an art-form.”

The Hammond Performing Arts Series began in Chestnut Hill nineteen years ago as a way to provide talented musicians with performance opportunities and to enrich the cultural life of the communities that Hammond’s network of offices serve. The series proved so successful in Chestnut Hill that it has been expanded to Boston, Concord, Hingham, Lexington, and Weston.
