Five Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 1

A bazaar, a fundraiser and a big hockey game.

1. Bazaar at Second Church. The Second Church in Newton will host a Bazaar today complete with a silent auction, face painting and Christmas wreaths. The event will run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. 

2. Jackson Homestead Community Weekend. It's the first weekend of the month, and that means free admission for Newton families at the Jackson Homestead and Museum. The museum shop is also holding its annual holiday sale starting this weekend. Shoppers can receive 10 percent off all purchases such as note cards, games, DVDs and more. Members receive a 20 percent discount. Stop by between noon - 5 p.m. 

3. Mass Nine for the 9th Fundraiser. Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square (96 Winthrop St.) is holding a fundraiser tonight for the Newton North High School Nine for the 9th group. The evening will include New Orleans style food and live music. All proceeds go toward supporting Mass Nine for the 9th, a Newton North High School community service initiative working in New Orleans. The event runs from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. and the suggested donation is $25.

4. Highland Jazz. Yoron Israel and High Standards will be playing tunes from their recent CD release "Visions-The Music of Stevie Wonder" tonight at Newton South High School. The concert starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20 at the door. 

5. BU vs. BC Hockey. The Boston College men's hockey team will face Boston University tonight in Chestnut Hill at Conte Forum. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
