Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 14

A romantic concert, NSHS basketball and some Valentine's Day fun.

1. David McGrory in concert. Belfast-born pianist David McGrory will give a concert celebrating love tonight at the Newton Free Library. McGrory will perform Robert Schumann’s Abegg Variations Op. 1, Enrique Granados’ Escenas Romanticas and Franz Liszt’s Ballad No 2 in B minor. The free concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

2. Happy Valentine's Day! Looking for some last-minute gift ideas? Check out five gifts for him and her that you can get right here in Newton. If you're looking for a last-minute date idea, check out the Upsodown Performance at the New Art Center from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. The night of contemporary art and music will include beer provided by Sam Adams and food from the new Po Boys in Newtonville. Tickets are $25 at the door. 

3. Free playtime. Need something to do with the little one today? Parents and caregivers are welcome to stop by with children up to age 4 for the free playtime at the Freedman Center at MSPP. The playtime will run from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Space is limited and admittance will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

4. Go Lions! The Newton South boys' varsity basketball team will host Westford Academy tonight at 7 p.m. The girls' varsity team will head to Westford Academy for an away game at 7 p.m.

5. Registration deadline for Newton SouthEast Little League. (for all leagues except T-Ball). This is the new league formed by the Newton East and Newton South little leagues
