Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 20

Election discussion, override discussion and the last day to register to vote for the March 12 special election.

1. Register to vote! Today is the last day to register to vote for the override special election on March 12. The Newton Election Commission at City Hall will be open until 8 p.m. tonight to accommodate any last-minute registrants. Check out this story for more details. 

2. More election discussion? , meaning the city will now consider when to hold a special election for the vacant seat. The Board of Aldermen's Programs & Services Committee will meet tonight at 7:45 p.m. in room 222 at City Hall to discuss this item, and whether to hold the Ward 1 special election in conjunction with the June 25 special Senate election. The Public Facilities Committee will also meet tonight at 7 p.m. in City Hall room 209. The agendas for both committees are included in the .pdf section to the right.

3. The Iron Lady. Today's free moving screening at the Newton Senior Center will be The Iron Lady. The movie starts at 1 p.m.

4. Moving Newton Forward meeting. The anti-override group, Moving Newton Forward, will hold a discussion and meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 440. 

5. Open mic. Cafe Sol Azteca in Newton Centre will host an acoustic open mic tonight at 8:30 p.m. Musicians of all styles are invited to attend and play.
