Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 24

A free concert, a little snow and a few open houses.

1. Free concert. Pianist Jayoung Kim will perform today at the Newton Free Library. The free concert starts at 2 p.m. and will include Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in E major, Op. 109, Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantasie, Op. 61 and Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B minor. 

2. Latest forecast. As of Saturday evening, the National Weather Service was forecasting mostly rain for the region, with precipitation changing over to snow during the day today. For areas south of the Mass Pike, the storm will be mostly rain, with snow in areas north of the Pike. Snow accumulation between 1 - 4 inches, the NWS says.

4. Reminder - cancellations. Due to the weather, the city's free CPR/AED course has been postponed, but a new date is TBD. In addition, today's town hall meeting on the override has been postponed to next Sunday.

5. Last Day to register! Today is the last day to register for Newton Has Talent. The event, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Newton, includes cash prizes for winners. Registration ends at midnight.
