Five Things You Need to Know Today: Feb. 8

Snow, snow and yes, more snow.

1. Newton Schools Closed. Due to the forecasted blizzard, the Newton Public Schools will be closed today along with most other private schools and colleges in the city. Check our Newton Storm Center for full details on what is open and closed today as well as the latest forecast.

2. City Hall, library to close at noon. Both Newton City Hall and the Newton Free Library will close at noon today. The Newton Senior Center will be closed all day today.

3. Snow emergency in effect as of noon. Get off the roads! (Please!) The city of Newton has issued a snow emergency that will go into effect as of noon today. Cars cannot be parked on city streets or in municipal lots during a snow emergency. Cars left on streets or in municipal lots after noon today will be ticketed and towed. Gov. Deval Patrick has also warned all drivers to be off the roads by noontime today.

4. MBTA stops at 3:30 p.m. The MBTA announced yesterday that all transit, including the subway, commuter rail and buses, will stop service as of 3:30 p.m. Friday. Plan accordingly! 

5. Trash/recycling as scheduled. According to city officials, trash/recycling pick-up for Newton will remain as scheduled today.
