Five Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 2

Youth Commission meets, a special program at the Senior Center and school is back in session.

1. School is back in session. That's right, Newton Public School students head back to the classroom today. 

2. "Widow in White" at the Newton Senior Center. Robert Trifiletti, director of the Italian Center of New York, Boston Office, The presentation will take place at 1 p.m. at the Newton Senior Center.

3. Youth Commission. The Newton Youth Commission will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria at Newton City Hall.

4. Teen "crafternoons." The teen section of the Newton Free Library hosts "crafternoons" on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. Kids grades 6-12 are welcome to stop in, hang out and get crafty. 

5. Welcome, New Year Baby! Meet Newton-Wellesley Hospital's first baby of 2013: Ahaana. The new baby girl was born at 12:08 a.m. on New Year's Day!
