Five Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 15

A night of Jazz, a meeting with the Mass. Secretary of Finance and a meeting on the wildlife population in Newton.

1. Wildlife meeting. The city will host a presentation and discussion tonight about the wildlife population in Newton. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the War Memorial Auditorium at Newton City Hall. According to information on the city's website, experts from the Massachusetts Department of Wildlife will be on hand at the event to specifically discuss the coyote and wild turkey populations in Newton.

2. Secretary Gonzalez in Newton. Mass. Secretary of Finance Jay Gonzalez will give the keynote address at a community innovation challenge grant forum today in Newton. The forum, which starts at 9:45 a.m., will include discussion on regionalization efforts between different communities in the Commonwealth. The forum will take place in the City Hall War memorial. 

3. Superman's new bio. It's a bird, it's a plane...it's Superman's new biography! Larry Tye, journalist and author of Satchel, will discuss his latest book, Superman: The High-Flying History of America’s Most Enduring Hero at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC tonight. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $8.

4. Parking ban starts today. The Newton overnight parking ban (Nov. 15-April 15) starts today. Cars parked on Newton streets for more than one hour between 2 a.m. - 6 a.m. will be ticketed. 

5. Jazz at Karoun.  The Newton Jazz & Wine Festival will present an evening of food and music with Persian Blue tonight at Karoun Restaurant. Sample Armenian and Mediterranean food and wines. Tickets are $15 and the evening kicks off at 6 p.m. More info available on the Newton Jazz Fest website.
